To be precise, the company started up a crowdfunding page on Fig, a crowdfunding site that caters to video game developers. The game, while published under the Gearbox Software umbrella, will be spearheaded by Blackbird Interactive, the company who also developed the last Homeworld game, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. Homeworld 3 is set to be a full sequel to Homeworld 2, which first released back in 2003. From what we can tell, both Gearbox Software and Blackbird Interactive plans on using the same “painterly cinematics” that was first introduced in Deserts of Kharak. Gearbox already met its crowdfunding goal of (surprisingly) US$1 (~RM4.21) and at the time of writing, the amount currently sits at US$376240 (~RM1.58 million) and is still climbing. In regards to the game’s status, Gearbox says that the game is already in pre-production.
As for when we’ll be able to play the game, don’t expect it to be arriving on our PCs anytime soon. According to the estimated delivery date, the developer isn’t planning on getting the game out until Q4 2022. For now, you can head over to Gearbox’s fig page to either pledge or invest in the game.
