Bernama reports that this will be part of the first phase of what is called the Single Token Journey initiative. Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) group CEO Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh said the initiative will make use of facial recognition to provide passengers will a single-token biometric identification authentication. This token will replace the usual process of you showing your boarding pass at regular checkpoints. One benefit of the new process is reducing the time it takes for someone to go from check-in to the boarding gates. In addition to that, the entire process will also be contactless, as well as “minimise instances of fraudulent identity use”.
As mentioned, this first phase is expected to be completed in the first half of the year. This will equip the 50 check-in kiosks, 20 check-in counters and 56 eGates of both KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 with the facial recognition tech. Passengers will also be able to use the MYairports app to register your face before they even arrive at the airport. Overall, the convenience of this sounds really great. But at the same time, the use of facial recognition can be a controversial one with privacy concerns. (Source: Bernama)
